On Wednesday, March 29th, join leading health care reform advocates for the D.C. premiere of a provocative look at the profit-driven practices that are hurting patients, providers and communities: AMERICAN HOSPITALS – HEALING A BROKEN SYSTEM.
The premiere of this eye-opening documentary will be followed by a panel discussion featuring experts and activists who are working to change this system:
- Sister Simone Campbell served as Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice from 2004-2021. During the 2010 congressional debate about healthcare reform, she wrote the famous “nuns’ letter” supporting the reform bill. She has organized “Nuns on the Bus Tours” to rally around tax justice, healthcare, economic justice, comprehensive immigration reform, and more.
- Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement at Johns Hopkins University. As Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Dr. Sharfstein helped establish the Maryland model of hospital global budgeting.
- Dr. Susan Rogers, former president of Physicians for a National Health Program, is recently retired from Stroger Hospital of Cook County, but continues as a volunteer attending hospitalist and internist there.
- Rob Weissman, president of Public Citizen and a staunch public interest advocate and activist, as well as an expert on corporate and government accountability.
- Moderated by Wendell Potter, advocate for health insurance payment reform, New York Times bestselling author, and former health insurance industry communications director.
